A Big Pot Of Soup

                                                                      Everyday is a brand new day,
                                                                       everyday is a journey.

To keep well drink often, but water;
Eat not that which makes life shorter;
But first, with all your might and skill,
Just chain your habits to your will.
—M. B. S.

It's been raining all weekend. A steady drizzle that hasn't let up since Friday night. It's wet, cold, cloudy and a bit gloomy. There's only one thing that will satisfy the tummy on a day like this one. Let's make a big pot of a hearty soup!

Soup is one of the easiest things to make. All one needs is a pot, some water, seasonings and veggies. One can top it off with some pasta or rice to thicken it or provide a little more substance. I've rarely followed a recipe with soup. Usually, I look inside my cupboards or refrigerator to see what needs to be used up quickly before it spoils. A great way to clean out the frig!

Soup has been called the poor man's supper, because it is both an inexpensive and filling way to feed a family. Remember the story of Stone Soup? It's just like that where one can add a little of this and a little of that and what comes out is delicious.

So that's what we are eating this Sunday, a hearty soup of veggies with rice and whole wheat bread on the side. A big bowl to take the chill off as the rain keeps coming down. We didn't even sit down at the table today. We ate it up in the living room as we watched reruns of CSI before Emily had to go into work.

What are all of you eating this Sunday? With whom? Where? Whatever that entails, I hope you are enjoying the togetherness or the perfect Quiet of a raining afternoon.

Happy Sabbath everyone.
